TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS
The Eye is the First Circle can be performed in a wide variety of theater venues, from black box theaters and non-traditional spaces to proscenium stages. There are two productions available to accommodate different venues.
Technical Specifications Version 1: Houses without Fly Space
Requires pre-hang with load-in day of show 1
This version of The Eye is the First Circle is a live piano performance with pre-recorded video. It utilizes a 9’ concert grand piano (Steinway or Yamaha) with lid removed and audio playback layered over the piano music at specific points in the piece. All video is projected on either a white cyc, projection screen, or a blank wall. This version is well-suited for both proscenium theatres, black box theatres, and more non-traditional spaces. Space must have a front-of-house-mounted 20,000-lumen minimum projector, lensed to cover width and height of projection surfaces, with a dowser. Lighting is comprised of backlight, frontlight, and sidelight systems plus several specials on pianist/ keyboard/ open piano. Conventional and LED instruments are used, and the show requires an ETC EOS or Ion console.
Technical Specifications Version 2: Houses with Fly Space
Requires pre-hang and 1 dedicated load-in day
This version of The Eye is the First Circle is a live piano performance with both pre-recorded and live video. It utilizes a 9’ concert grand piano (Steinway or Yamaha) with lid removed and audio playback layered over the piano music at specific points in the piece. It is best suited to proscenium theatre with a full fly system to fly Company scenery (3 projection panels plus a silver bobbinet), house black velour leg-and-border masking, white plastic on which to project the video content, and 2 fullstage black drops upstage and downstage. Piece requires a black stage floor. Space must have a front-of-house-mounted 20,000-lumen minimum projector, lensed to cover width and height of projection surfaces, and with a dowser. Company brings 2 cameras – one hung from the fly system over the piano and one mounted front of house on the balcony rail. The video content is a mix of pre-recorded and live video, projected on the white plastic, the 3 scenic panels, and silver bobbinet. Lighting is comprised of backlight, frontlight, and sidelight systems plus several specials on pianist/ keyboard/ open piano. Conventional and LED instruments are used, and the show requires an ETC EOS or Ion console.
